Halloween Candy Tips
This was my hubs and I two years ago a horse and a wipe…..my intentions were a zombie, my kids said I was a butt wipe….you decide
Today is the day where society has told us it’s ok to totally abandon all reasons of what should go in our body (and our kid’s bodies) and pour food dye, corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and copious amounts of sugar down our pipes!!! Haaaaaaaa…. But in all seriousness...
I actually love Halloween! I love making a big pot of chili and enjoying it with friends before we go out to trick or treat. And if I am honest I am not bashing having treats. BUT MODERATION people….
When our guts are not strong enough to handle this treat time though we really suffer and so do our kids. So overall moderation is THE best thing but we all know we will be having some treats even if you are the person that buys the organic candy like me….
Tips for Improvement
Here are some tips that don't cost anything extra, but can truly help to boost your mood and your digestion after the candy sesh is over...
Exercise - It takes healthy muscle tone all around the abdomen for food to digest properly. Muscle tone is needed to move food through the digestive tract. Increasing exercise can improve digestion, even if you don't change what you eat.
Don't Overeat - Overeating any food is taxing on the digestive system and can affect the rate of digestion. It requires the body to expend a lot of energy, adds stress on the system and forces the body to try to use too many nutrients at once. Practice moderation and only eat until you are three-quarters full.
Take Time to Smell - Digestion begins before the food enters your mouth. The smells of food being prepared trigger the brain to send signals to the gut to receive the anticipated meal – the mouth waters and down the length of the gut, enzymes are prepared that will be needed to digest the meal. Smelling those wonderful aromas stokes the digestion fires!
Reduce or Eliminate Processed Foods - These so-called foods are challenging for the digestive system. Think of these as "nutrient robbers." The body has to supply its own energy and nutrients in order for these products to metabolize. Key take away: Stick to whole foods as much as possible.
Chew Your Food - Thoroughly chewing will help any food digest. I heard one nutrition expert say "chew your smoothie!" We complicate digestion whenever we eat on the run or gulp down our food. Slow down, savor your food and chew it up. (Saliva contains lots of enzymes that aid digestion)
Gut health is where good health begins. Remember that symptoms are common, but not normal. Following these tips can greatly improve your digestion and how you feel overall.
